Back In DC.

The closing credits for walkingthestates 2006 as we arrive back in DC to put the lid back on our US adventures for this year. We have in store Halloween, Thanksgiving and various parties in between. Bring it on.

It was great to get back to DC, we are among good friends and everything feels kind of familiar, like a halfway house between travelling and home. We are now expert at making ourselves at home in the least possible time so already Davids appartment is awreck with hiking detritus.

The day after we arrived was Halloween so we spent the afternoon buying bucketfuls of candy and carving pumpkins. Here is my effort - Evil Frank - pretty terrifying.Apparently unofficial kick-off for your trick and treaters is 6pm so we sat outside to wait for the invasion. It was a beautiful evening but there was a chill in the air so both Marni and Ellie had their coats on.Stu and David donned masks to enhance their latent evilness. And then they came, loads of them, dripping with fake blood and greedy for sweets. And then they came, loads of them, dripping with fake blood and greedy for sweets. And then they came, loads of them, dripping with fake blood and greedy for sweets. And then they came, loads of them, dripping with fake blood and greedy for sweets. And then they came, loads of them, dripping with fake blood and greedy for sweets.

I asked Superman to turn round for me so I could take his picture. He gave me just about the most regal pose you could imagine as he clutched his candy. I think he believed in his powers. Some of the kids were terrified variously by our masks, a berobed Ellie, Stuarts evil English Santa candy-bestowing antics and my incessant flashbulb. They all still got up enough nerve to come up for their treats.
DC Halloween.DC Halloween.Unmasking for liquid refreshment in order to sustain appropriate levels of evil. From freezing temperatures in the Mid-West to balmy days back on the East Coast. Enjoying the sun with Ellie in Davids backyard.
